Powerful Experiment Design
Flexible Layer DesignNew
Design experiments by drawing screen, grid, random, condition list, and protein layers on a canvas of plates. Each of these layers is a collection of data that defines the contents of an experiment's wells or drops. Each experiment can have any combination of these layers which can be overlapped to design complex plates. Layers are easily resized to span multiple plates or fit to only a single well.
Drawing CanvasNew
Define the number of plates, wells, and drops for a fully customizable experiment drawing area. This customization allows even greater flexibility for experiment design. For example, the use of multiple plates allows you to drag out a grid onto several plates to get smaller intervals between maximum and minimum concentrations or pH values. The Plate Canvas dynamically updates to provide a graphical representation of experiment data, indicating the ingredient attributes of drops and wells via color-coded shading.
Ingredients TabNew
New to Rock Maker 2.0 is the Ingredients Tab that allows you to quickly add ingredients to your experiment by dragging and dropping. There is a search feature built
into the tab to rapidly find the ingredient you need in the ingredients database. There is also a Favorite Ingredient Stock List which allows you to save commonly used
ingredients for quick access.
Drag & Drop Optimization
Rock Maker 2.0 allows you to drag and drop conditions to optimize them. Drag conditions into grid experiments to grid around the hit. Drag hits into random experiments to explore multiple hits that show promise, or drag hits into screens to build custom screens.
Complete Experiment CustomizationUpdated Rock Maker 2.0 allows you to define stock ingredients, containers, screens, and protein formulations used in your experiments. Define the names, types, concentrations, and pHs of ingredients from which experiments are dispensed. Virtually any microplate format can be defined in Rock Maker 2.0 including free interface diffusion systems. Virtually all commercially available screens are already entered and defined. See Rock Maker XML for details.
Liquid Handling
Rock Maker 2.0 integrates with your liquid handler to make setting up your experiments easy. Select the plates you would like to dispense, follow the directions that Rock Maker 2.0 provides, and click go-Rock Maker 2.0 takes care of the rest. This includes dispensing experiments from screen plates, dispensing screens from stocks, dispensing experiments directly from stocks, and setting protein drops. While Rock Maker can integrate with virtually any liquid handler upon request, we currently provide tight off-the-shelf integrations with the Formulatrix Formulator™, Tecan Freedom EVO© Series, Hamilton ML STAR™ and Rigaku Alchemist™.
Image Collection
Rock Maker 2.0 tightly integrates with Formulatrix Rock Imager™ systems to support features like flexible imaging schedules, Regions of Interest, Multi-Capture, Extended Focus Imaging (EFI), and UV Imaging. See Rock Imager and Rock Imager UV for imaging details. Optional drivers are currently available for the Rigaku Minstrel™ Bruker Crystal Farm™ Tri-Tek CrystalPro™ Thermo Rhombix™ and Diversified Scientific Imaging Systems. Other imager integrations available upon request.
Image Viewing and Scoring
Image ViewsUpdated
There are several different ways to view your images in Rock Maker 2.0 including:
- Plates View: shows one drop image for every well of all the plates used in the experiment. Now supporting free interface diffusion systems.
- Well View: shows you a high-resolution image of all drops in the selected well.
- Drop View: shows you a high-resolution image on only the currently selected drop.
- Time View: shows all inspections that have occurred over the life of a drop.
Image Scoring and Annotating
Rapidly score images using hotkeys and define scores to fit your experiments. Score data is searchable to quickly find the conditions you need. With Rock Maker 2.0's Image Tools, annotate your images with pen marks, measure crystals with rulers, and add notes to your images. The tools also allow you to define regions of interest and zoom in and out dynamically using the mouse scroll wheel.
Data Analysis
Rock Maker provides a growing set of data analyses tools to rapidly optimize experiment conditions.
Find the Data you NeedUpdated
Rock Maker 2.0's search tool makes virtually every piece of data in the system searchable. View, sort, and filter your search results and export the results to a tab separated file. New to Rock Maker 2.0 is the ability to highlight the well positions of a specific ingredient in an experiment with a single click.
Printable ReportsUpdated
Rock Maker 2.0 provides a number of reports that summarize experiment data in a printable format. Printed reports can be used for archiving and recording experiments for your lab notebook. Each report is customizable to meet your reporting needs. The following reports are available:
- Experiment Report: comprehensive report of your experiment including general experiment data, imaging settings and schedules, list of ingredients, layer data, and images of the Plate Canvas in design, ingredient, and image modes.
- Single Drop Report - compiles information pertaining to a single drop including a large image of the drop.
- Ingredients Report - displays the ingredients used in each well of a single plate.
- Images Report - displayed the drop images of a single plate.
- Design Report - displays the layers of a single plate.
