At the core of the Mantis is a patent-pending microfluidic valve cluster that can measure and dispense discrete volumes of liquid. Pressure and vacuum are used to open and close each valve on the silicone valve cluster. This valve cluster has two micro-diaphragms (100nL/500nL or 1µL/5µL depending on the chip option) that can fill and dispense as fast as 10 times per second.
To minimize dead volume, the ingredient plugs directly into the microfluidic chip. The Mantis can use pipette tips as ingredient reservoirs to reduce waste even further. Dead volumes can be reduced down to 6uL using this feature. This feature is ideal for dispensing even the most precious samples.
The Mantis is the smallest liquid handling robot made by Formulatrix, and is one of the smallest footprints on the market. With a base that fits on a standard mouse pad, the Mantis can fit in nearly any workspace - but remains robot accessible for automation. Size: 220mm (8.66“) x 162mm (6.38“) x 111mm (4.37”)
Mantis can dispense up to 6 reagents automatically. This allows you to dispense complex plates and assay development experiments.
