Microdiaphragm powered Backfilling for Mantis & Tempest
One of the defining features of Formulatrix Liquid Handlers is their ability to dispense nanoliter volumes from up to 12 different sources (Tempest) or 6 different sources (Mantis) into any well of a 96/384/1536 plate. Both systems’ have easy to program GUI’s that can calculate and deliver the volumes necessary for a complete dispense. It can also back-fill an entire microplate to any desired volume within seconds.
How it works :
Each pulse from the microdiaphragm chip dispenses a minimum of 100nL. The user defines what solutions are to be added to the plate and then chooses the Backfill function. A desired final volume is then added for each well. The program calculates the volume required and completes the operation.

Application:
Design of Experiment.
Previous Method:
Manually or on a BioMek FX.
Improvements:
“The Tempest saves us hours for each DoE that we run. What used to take 3-4 hours on the FX now takes us less than half an hour on the Tempest. The ability to run 12 reagents at a time and the fact that the dead volume is so low makes this instrument invaluable to our department.”
User Comments:
“The Tempest has been a great addition to our lab and has already saved us a ton of time and money. We started off with a beta version of the instrument and the team over at Formulatrix worked extremely hard to incorporate most of our suggestions in the final product. It has been a pleasure working with them.”
