Formulatrix

Formulatrix’ UV imaging technology uses the fluorescence of tryptophan under UV light to reveal critical new information about your drops.

Key Features

  • Distinguish salt crystals from protein crystals
  • Find crystals that remain hidden when viewed under visible light
  • Automated UV image scoring prioritizes drops for viewing and scoring (e.g. 1.0 = clear, 5.0 = precipitate, 10.0 = large crystals)
  • Available as a standalone inspections station, retrofitted into an existing Rock Imager, or as an option on a new Rock Imager

Formulatrix’ UV solution uses 100% UV optimized components – UV grade optics, UV sensitive camera, and UV lighting. This is critical to achieving the best image quality and highest imaging speed possible. When UV is purchased as an option for a Rock Imager the same high quality visible light components remain and an additional new UV optical path is added so you can get the best UV and visible light images.

Manual UV fluorescent inspection station (shipping early Q3, 2008)

  • UV specialized optics with Fixed zoom at a 3 mm field of view
  • excitation filter
  • dichroic mirror
  • manually removable emission filter (for visible light imaging and drop location)
  • UV black and white fluorescent sensitive 1.4 MP CCD camera
  • Software for viewing images and quickly switching the camera from visible light to UV light
  • LED UV illumination
  • LED visible light illumination (for visibly locating the drop)
  • Note – the system has no automation. This system is intended for manual inspection of drops.

Rock Imager UV option with fixed zoom (shipping late Q3, 2008)

  • All the features of the manual inspection station
  • Fully integrated with Rock Imager
  • Automated intensity control of UV illumination
  • Automated switching between UV and visible light optical paths
  • Automated XYZ positioning, drop location, and exposure
  • Automated drop scoring based on UV concentration, blob size, and blob count
